Nike Vision brings clear vision to 30,000 children

Nike Vision recently launched the We See project, an eye health clinic, based in Soweto, South Africa at the Nike Football Training Centre.  We See will provide free eye exams and glasses, donated by Nike Vision, to 30,000 school-age children.  Over the next three years, the goal is to reduce vision impairment among children by 90% offering new opportunities to succeed in school and in life.

Inspired by a 2012 visit by VSP Global representatives to the Nike Football Training Centre, We See was born.  During the visit, nearly 200 students and staff received eye exams and glasses.  Over the last two years, teachers have noted that many students who received glasses have shown improvements in participation and learning.

The We See project officially kicked off on April 10th with more than 600 students from three local area schools participating in the day’s activities that included a soccer match with players from the Kaizer Chiefs and other local celebrities.  Nike Vision is optimistic about the possibilities ahead for these children to see well enough to read, write and even play sports like soccer.
